People of the Way

People of the way is the name given to believers in Jesus long ago. Jesus is The Way, The Truth and The Life! God has put people here at The Way Homes so they can find their way to everything good, that is wrapped up in following Jesus Christ, and becoming new creations in Him.

We are a diverse group. Our stories are many and varied, but we are the Body of Christ. We have all been given gifts not just for our success but to share with everyone.

“Here are some of the parts God has appointed for the church: first are apostles, second are prophets, third are teachers, then those who do miracles, those who have the gift of healing, those who can help others, those who have the gift of leadership, those who speak in unknown languages” 1 Corinthians 12:28.

If we are to share our gifting, we cannot isolate ourselves but must make an effort to engage in relationships. In our diversity, we can not “cancel you” if you do not have the same opinion as me. We are going to try and live at peace with all.

Our attitude is the biggest challenge. If only I can play the strings of your attitude, but alas I can only play the strings of my own attitude and with that, we need the Lord’s help. We can’t do each other’s part. We can only do our part. Let us examine our ways. We all, like sheep, go astray, so we need to return to the Lord daily.

The Bible is the only book that when you read it, it reads you.

This is what it means when it is said “the word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Read it – Get your daily bread! In this day when the Coronavirus has isolated us, we can remember Hebrews 10:25 as things begin to open up and “not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some.”

Ken (Pictured Left): I’m blessed by Jesus my Lord and Savior as I read God’s Word and meditate on it as well as have some men around who share their gifts with me. “But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers.” Psalms 1: 2-3 It is a benefit when we study the bible together: “Iron sharpens iron as one man sharpens another.” Proverbs 27. 17

Don (Pictured Right): The first time I came here it was to get a closer walk with the Lord. I had been off of heroin and suboxone since 2007. I have had the time here to reflect on God’s word and it has made me a stronger Christian and continued to give me the strength to walk in my recovery.

During this last Covid period our residency rate went down. Now, suddenly in the last week, we have 5-6 new people coming into our homes. Most of them have no financial support. We do not want to turn people away who are serious about walking out of addiction, growing in their relationship with the Lord, and exhibit an aptitude and motivation to work to support themselves. That’s what we are all about, but we need your help to sponsor them until they get a job and on their feet. A resident needs $175 a week for their private room, utilities, cable, and internet.
